Die TIB betreibt zu diesem Zweck ein eigenes Langzeitarchivierungssystem, in dem textuelle und nicht-textuelle Wissensobjekte archiviert werden. Dabei wird nicht nur der Datenstrom gesichert (Bit-Stream Preservation) sondern die Erhaltung der Objekte erfolgt auf der Ebene der Datei-Formate. Mit ihrem Angebot "Preservation-as-a-Service" bietet die TIB die Langzeitarchivierung als Dienstleistung anderen Institutionen an, die kein eigenes Langzeitarchivierungssystem betreiben wollen oder können. Der Heterogenität der Dienstleistungsnehmer*innen in Bezug auf Bestandsgröße und Archivierungsanforderungen, wird durch die Bereitstellung einer skalierbaren und mandatenfähigen Infrastruktur entsprochen.
